Downtown Tucson has served as the central location in Southern Arizona for commerce and trade for hundreds of years, and appropriately so since it encompasses the sites of the original settlement and the presidio.

Today, the greater downtown area is defined by the Tucson Modern Street Car route and is “home” to more than 60,000 employees. The area also provides cultural, historic, and arts venues that include, restaurants, festivals and entertainment establishments for the region's one million residents and three million annual visitors.

The future economic vitality of this region is dependent on an enhanced Downtown Tucson that serves as a central gathering spot for business, tourists, government and, most importantly, the residents of greater Tucson.

You can follow Downtown Project information through a map and a project list. Photos, details and expenses-to-date are provided for downtown development and Rio Nuevo projects. The City of Tucson invites you to track the progress and status of these projects.

The map shows the location and footprint of each project. Project sites are color-coded to give a quick indication of their status. The Legend button gives the meanings of the color codes.

Click on a project to bring up more information, a summary, description and photo, if one is available. The project details link will take you to a page with more information.

The City is dedicated to increasing public awareness and participation in local government. The Downtown Project information site is just one step toward that goal.
