City of Tucson Environmental Services (ES) unveiled the first trash and recycling collection vehicles powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). At a time when fleets are scrambling to keep up with the cost of petroleum, maintenance, and the rising cost of keeping vehicles on the road, ES committed to converting its diesel fueled fleet to a sustainable, cleaner, and money-saving, alternative fuel.
By the end of Fiscal Year 2014, ES will purchase 28 CNG powered collection trucks and will convert 90% of its fleet within five years. The benefits of this fleet conversion are:
