Know Where to Throw

Put the stuff you don’t want, where it will do the most good.

Save natural resources by recycling plastic bags, blue jeans, bicycle tires/tubes, and garden hoses.

Protect the environment by disposing of recyclable materials properly.

Give your "stuff" a new life by donating your reusable goods to charity and other recyclers.

Tucson Clean & Beautiful also has a great resource if you are looking for recycling and reuse options in Tucson. Take a look at the 'Reduce, Reuse & Recyle Directory' which is updated regularly.

Our goal during October was to offer residents a means of finding where their discarded “stuff” can be recycled or reused in the community. Throughout the month of October 2012, Tucsonans were asked to participate by bringing plastic bags, garden hoses and worn out blue jeans and bicycle inner tubes to each Council Ward office for reuse and recycling.

We are pleased to report that this waste diversion effort was again successful, accumulating over 8712 plastic grocery bags, 23 garden hoses, 71 pairs of jeans and 14 inner tubes. The plastic bags were taken to the ReCommunity Material Recovery Facility where they will be sold and recycled into new plastic bags or composite lumber.  The garden hoses were delivered to the Habistore where they will be re-purposed into new products. The blue jeans will of be processed into home insulation products by United Fibers of Chandler AZ while BICAS of Tucson received the inner tubes for art projects and recycling

Thank you to Tucson Clean and Beautiful for the assistance with this year’s efforts as well as the Mayor and Council and their staff, and especially to those Tucsonans who brought their "stuff" in for collection.
