Keep useful items out of the landfill with FREECYCLE
The Freecycle Network™ provides individuals and non-profits an electronic forum to "recycle" unwanted items. When you want to find a new home for something -- whether it's a chair, a fax machine, piano, or an old door -- you simply send an email offering it to members of your local Freecycle group. Or, maybe you're looking to acquire something yourself. Simply respond to a member's offer, and you just might get it! Our main rule: Everything posted must be free, legal, and appropriate for all ages.
The Freecycle Network™ started in Tucson, Arizona in 2003 and has since spread to over 75 countries, where there are thousands of local groups representing millions of members -- people helping people and "changing the world one gift at a time." As a result, Freecycle is currently keeping over 300 tons a day out of landfills! This amounts to four times the height of Mt. Everest in the past year alone, when stacked in garbage trucks!
Freecycle’s mission is to build a worldwide gifting movement that reduces waste, saves precious resources & eases the burden on our landfills while enabling our members to benefit from the strength of a larger community.
By giving freely with no strings attached, members of The Freecycle Network™ help instill a sense of generosity of spirit as they strengthen local community ties and promote environmental sustainability and reuse. People from all walks of life have joined together to turn trash into treasure. As we further develop community reuse and recycling globally on a local scale, we are creating a global gift economy in the process. Simply beautiful how one can change the world, one gift at a time.
