The Plan Tucson Public Participation Program kicked off with six Public Introductory Meetings as presented below. A total of 73 people signed in for these meetings. The meetings were advertised through the Plan Tucson web site, through a variety of project email lists, through City Ward Offices, through neighborhood association leaders, and through press releases.
Presentations: The meeting agenda included two illustrated presentations. The first presentation explained the purpose of and process for Plan Tucson. The second identified previous planning initiatives, with public outreach components, that will help form the foundation on which Plan Tucson is to be built. These presentations are provided in the following two pdf’s: Plan Tucson Overview, Plan Tucson Aspirations
Discussion: Complementing the presentations was a Question & Answer period, which led to some lively discussion. Staff recorded discussion points during each meeting and then transcribed them as presented in this pdf: Participant Discussion
Exercises: Following the presentations and discussion, participants were invited to do several exercises. In the first exercise, participants reviewed a list of planning initiatives completed or underway that are being considered in the preparation of Plan Tucson. They then provided names of any other planning initiatives recommended for staff review. That list and the participants’ additional suggestions are presented in this pdf: Planning Initiatives
For the second exercise, participants began by reviewing a list of common aspirations that staff identified in reviewing other planning initiatives. These are presented in the second PowerPoint above. Participants were then asked to add any aspirations they thought important for consideration. Finally, participants responded to the question How Are We Doing? by selecting one or two aspirations from the list and then identifying the following for each aspiration chosen: (a) 2-3 things moving us toward the aspiration, and (b) 2-3 things standing in the way of this aspiration. The results of this exercise are presented in this pdf: Aspirations
Comments & Questions Form: At each meeting, forms were available for participants who wanted to share any thoughts or questions they might have. Several completed forms were received and are presented in the following pdf: Completed Comment and Question Form
