Extreme Home Makeovers - City & County Style

Pima County and the City of Tucson are sharing $22.1 million in federal grant money that will help various neighborhoods through the purchase of homes that currently sit vacant, abandoned or dilapidated.

The City's share of $4.2 million will be used to purchase homes for rehabilitation which will then be resold or rented. Improvements made will also be as environmentally-friendly as possible.

Over a three-year period, the County and City expect that 400 units of housing will be built or improved. Homeownership assistance for foreclosed properties will be provided to qualifying buyers. Many other homes will be rehabilitated for rental to low- and very-low income residents.

The grant money is from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program 2 (NSP2), funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

The City of Tucson is not responsible for the application process of these grants, nor will it be involved in the distribution of these funds.

If you are a community organization who has received ARRA stimulus funding and you would like to share your success story with the City of Tucson, please contact Michael Carson at Michael.Carson@tucsonaz.gov or 837-4061.
