Even after three years without a word from him, Madama Butterfly faithfully awaits his return, holding onto her dreams of love and their child she named Sorrow. When at last he arrives, Butterfly discovers he has married someone else. Her fragile heart shattered, she must find a way to soar above disgrace and restore her honor. With sets that evoke the charm of a Nagasaki village, this Arizona Opera production features Shu-Ying Li in the title role of Puccini’s beloved opera. The most sought-after interpreter of Madama Butterfly in North America, Li brings joy, heartbreak and full-throated passion to one of opera’s most iconic parts. It has set the standard for gem and mineral shows around the world, and is now the largest gem and mineral show in the United States. The Show is open to the public and presents Retail Dealers only. Proceeds from the Show remain in the Tucson economy and are used to support mineral knowledge and appreciation.

The TSO celebrates the 100th anniversary of Arizona statehood with a program of music, dance, spoken word and a performance by the world’s premier performer of the Native American flute, R. Carlos Nakai. Take a musical tour of our most renowned Arizona feature – Grofé’s exceptionally popular Grand Canyon Suite – and be inspired by a President’s Day observance with a narration of Copland’s Lincoln’s Portrait. All performed by Arizona’s first and longest continuously performing professional arts organization.
