On Thursday, September 19, 2013 and Monday, September 23, 2013, Southern Arizona Paving, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will restripe Sixth Avenue from Drachman Street to Sixth Street. This work is in preparation for the conversion of Sixth Avenue to two-way travel along this section of roadway.
On Thursday, September 19, 2013, Sixth Avenue from Drachman Street to Sixth Street will be converted to two-way travel following the completion of the striping operation. Motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians should use caution throughout the area as the public becomes accustomed to the change in traffic patterns along this section of roadway.
The contractor will continue work to complete access ramps at the intersections of Sixth Avenue/Speedway Boulevard and Sixth Avenue/Sixth Street. Motorists should prepare for lane restrictions in the work area. This work is expected to continue through the end of September 2013.
In the upcoming weeks, the public can expect to see professional arborists evaluating and trimming, when necessary, the existing trees along Sixth Avenue from Drachman Street and Sixth Street. Impacts, if any, will be minimal during this work.
Crews will be working 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The project is scheduled to be completed October 1, 2013.
Business and residential access will be maintained at all times during the project. The traveling public can expect delays when driving in the work area. Parking on Sixth Avenue will be restricted at times. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work area.
