Work is underway to reconstruct underground utilities and install track for the 3.9-mile-long Tucson Modern Streetcar project.
With several upcoming public events scheduled along the construction route, stretching from the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center along University Boulevard and Fourth Avenue to Downtown, the City of Tucson would like to remind the traveling public that despite the construction, downtown Tucson and areas along Fourth Avenue are accessible to the traveling public.
“Businesses along the construction route are open, accessible and ready to serve,” said Tucson City Manager Richard Miranda. “These businesses and upcoming special events are significant to our community and we would like to see them remain successful. We welcome all the events taking place in and around downtown and I want to encourage Tucsonans to come take part in these great events and patronize our local businesses. Downtown and Fourth Avenue are accessible and there is plenty of parking.”
Attached is a parking map for distribution, indicating locations where the public can park to access businesses and events at the University of Arizona, the Fourth Avenue district and Downtown. Additional information on the project can be viewed at www.tucsonmodernstreetcar.com
As a reminder, the following restrictions are in place to facilitate the work for the Modern Streetcar:
Traffic signal timing on roadways adjacent to the closed roads have been adjusted to allow for additional green through time to ease congestion. Pedestrian access adjacent to these closures will be maintained at all times.
