Groundwater quality in the Tucson region varies considerably from location to location, and delivery patterns change depending upon the seasonal operational needs of the potable (drinking) water system. In order to provide you with water quality information more specific to your location within the Tucson Water service area, we have divided the water distribution system into 10 water quality zones based on water pressure and geographical and political boundaries.

The quality of the drinking water delivered to customers in each of these zones is monitored by sampling a number of locations within each zone on a regular schedule and averaging the information within each zone. A Distribution System Sampling Location Map is also available.

The Water Quality Zone Map shows the 10 water quality zones located in the Tucson metropolitan area. Because of the extremely reduced scale of this map, water quality zone boundaries are approximate. A verbal description of the boundaries for each zone is located below.

Zone One is in the northwestern portion of the Tucson Water distribution system and is bounded on the east by the Metropolitan Water System and on the south by Sunset Road.

Zone Two is in the northern part of the Tucson Water distribution system and is bounded on the west by the Metropolitan Water System, on the north and east by the Coronado National Forest, and on the south approximately by River Road.

Zone Three is in the western part of the Tucson Water distribution system and is bounded on the west by Saguaro National Park, on the north by Sunset Road, on the east by approximately Tucson Boulevard, and on the south approximately by 22nd Street.

Zone Four is located in the central portion of the Tucson Water distribution system and is bounded on the west approximately by Tucson Boulevard, on the north by River Road, on the east approximately by Swan Road, and on the south by 22nd Street.

Zone Five is located in the east-central portion of the Tucson Water distribution system and is bounded on the west approximately by Swan Road, on the north by Skyline Drive, on the south by Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. The east boundary runs south on approximately Harrison Road to Speedway Boulevard, west to Pantano Road, south to Broadway Boulevard, west to Wilmot Road, south to 22nd Street, and west to Craycroft Road.

Zone Six is located in the near-east portion of the Tucson Water distribution system and is bounded on the west by Zone Five and on the south by Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. The north boundary is approximately Roger Road. From Roger Road and Harrison Road, the zone boundary runs east approximately two miles, then south to Speedway Boulevard. The boundary then runs west to Harrison Road, south to Golf Links Road, and west to Kolb Road.

Zone Seven is located in the far-east portion of the Tucson Water distribution system and is bounded on the west by Zone Four and on the south by Interstate 10. The northern and eastern boundaries are the Coronado National Forest and Saguaro National Park. Zone Seven includes the Rita Ranch area.

Zone Eight is located in the far-south portion of the Tucson Water distribution system and is bounded on the east by Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, and on the south approximately by Los Reales Road. The north and west boundaries follow Golf Links Road west to County Club Road, south to Irvington Road, west to approximately Campbell Avenue and south to the San Xavier Nation.

Zone Nine is located in the near-south portion of the Tucson Water distribution system and is bounded on the north by 22nd Street, on the west approximately by Camino de Oeste, on the east by Zone 8, and on the south by the San Xavier Nation.

Zone Ten is located in the southwestern portion of the Tucson Water distribution system and is bounded on the north by Tucson Mountain Park, on the west by Sandario Road, on the east approximately by Camino de Oeste, and on the south by the San Xavier Nation.
