Over the last few weeks, I’ve gotten some disturbing news about vandalism at Jesse Owens Park.
The maintenance compound at the park was broken into late last month and equipment and vehicles were vandalized. Later, a bathroom was also vandalized.

The Ward 5 Council Office, along with other City offices will be closed Monday, January 17, in observance of the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday. The Ward 5 office will reopen Tuesday, January 18.

On Thursday, January 13, 2022, crews from Next Generation Electrical, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), are scheduled to convert the traffic signal heads to include flashing yellow arrows at the 29th Street and Alvernon Way intersection.

On Tuesday, January 11, 2022, Church Avenue between Jackson Street and Cushing Street will be closed to motor vehicle travel while crews stage a crane and remove the chiller, currently in place for the Tucson Holiday Ice Rink.
The closure is scheduled to be in place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the same day. During this work, motorists traveling northbound and southbound may use Granada Avenue or Stone Avenue as an alternate route.

On December 7, 2021, Mayor and Council adopted an amendment to the Unified Development code to allow Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), or casitas, in Tucson.
What is a casita? These smaller units provide an independent living space on the same lot as a primary unit. They are a way of providing more flexible housing options that can help seniors age in place and support multi-generational living.
What do the new rules allow? The code amendment adopted by Mayor & Council allows:

On Monday, January 3, 2022, Borderland Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), is scheduled to close Main Avenue/Granada Avenue from St. Mary's Road to Speedway Boulevard. Residential and business access will be maintained between Speedway Boulevard and Fourth Street and a full closure will be in place from the Union Pacific Railroad Tracks (UPRR) south to St. Mary’s Road. This work is part of the Prop 101 Tucson Delivers Better Streets Project currently taking place.

The City of Tucson is seeking qualifications and proposals from not-for-profit organizations interested in providing Housing Rehabilitation Services funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Proposals are due no later than 11:59pm Arizona time on January 31, 2022. Interested organizations are encouraged to download the request for proposals and apply by the deadline above.
