This project is part of the RTA Houghton Corridor Improvements that will expand travel capacity and safety in this key north-south regional corridor to accommodate the 2030 traffic demands. Specifically, this project will replace four miles of the existing two-lane roadway with a new six-lane divided desert parkway. The roadway work will include improved intersections with dual left turn lanes, exclusive right turn lanes and upgraded traffic signals; rubberized asphalt for noise mitigation; native landscaping with water harvesting; improved multi-modal access by adding bike lanes on and off the roadway, improving ADA-accessibility and adding sidewalks and multi-use paths, and include bus pullouts and transit options; upgraded drainage and add all-weather crossings, landscaping that enhances the scenic corridor and utilizes water harvesting and incorporates native plants; implement Wildlife-sensitive design features; and bring in Public Art.
