Paul's Note - October 7, 2022

Coach Roland LaVetter passed away last week. He had a shelf full of honors coaching basketball at both Pueblo and Rincon-University High Schools. He was such a well-respected coach (a two-time state champion, by the way) that Lute Olson brought him in for his early basketball camps.  

He was also my coach and teacher.

WETMORE ROAD AND AUTOMALL DRIVE/FAIRVIEW AVENUE INTERSECTION

On Thursday, October 6, 2022, crews from Next Generation Electrical, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), are scheduled to rewire the traffic signals at the Wetmore Road and Automall Drive/Fairview Avenue intersection.

Stone Ave Closure - Pedestrian Bridge Installation

On Thursday, October 6, 2022, beginning at 6 a.m., Stone Avenue south of Sixth Street to Franklin Street/Toole Avenue, including the Stone Avenue underpass, is scheduled to close to all northbound and southbound travel. This closure will be in place while the contractor installs a bicycle and pedestrian bridge over Stone Avenue. Southbound travel into downtown is scheduled to reopen by 11 a.m. on Friday, October 7, and northbound travel is scheduled to reopen by 4 p.m. on Friday.

City of Tucson awarded two grants from Arizona State Historic Preservation Office to support local historic preservation efforts

The City of Tucson was recently awarded two pass-through grants from the Arizona State Historic Preservation Office. These grants are available to certified local governments on an annual basis to support historic preservation projects.

On Tuesday, October 4, 2022, crews from Next Generation Electrical, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), are scheduled to convert the traffic signal heads to include flashing yellow arrows at the Silverbell Road and Grant Road intersection.

On Wednesday, September 28, 2022, crews from Next Generation Electrical, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility (DTM), are scheduled to convert the traffic signal heads to include flashing yellow arrows for eastbound travel on Irvington Road onto northbound Harrison Road.

Paul's Note - September 23, 2022

My colleagues and I haven't made the final decision on what will happen to transit fares after the period of free fares ends on December 31. The discussion isn’t just among members of the council. My staff has had regular meetings with Sun Tran users and we’ve been holding listening sessions with Sun Van riders. I also met with Patrick Robles, the student body president of the University of Arizona, to discuss the concerns of students who are one of the major users of both Sun Tran and Sun Link. 

Operation Splash 2022 Ends

OPERATION SPLASH 2022 AND SANDBAG DISTRIBUTION CONCLUDES

As the region’s thunderstorm season comes to an end, the Tucson Department of Transportation and Mobility’s (DTM) Operation Splash initiative and sandbag distribution operations has concluded. The self-serve sandbag distribution site, located at Hi Corbett Field, has been open since June 2022 to offer free sandbags to residents concerned with flooding during the summer’s monsoons.
