October Special Programs at Saguaro National Park Rincon District

Saguaro National Park is offering a variety of hikes and talks this fall that explore the park’s wonderful natural and cultural history. This listing is also available on the park’s website, or visit them on Facebook. Interpretive programs are free, but park entrance fees apply. Program schedules are subject to change; call the visitor center (733-5153) for updates or reservations.

Record Number of New Jobs, Businesses in Downtown Tucson

Downtown Tucson has seen record development over the past sixty months, recently hitting the milestone of over 150 new businesses and private projects in the heart of the city. Downtown is helping to lead Southern Arizona economic recovery, with thousands of new jobs created and increased sales tax revenue being reinvested in the community. Local small business owners and high-tech industry projects comprise a majority of this investment.

POW/MIA Remembrance Ceremony

A Prisoner of War/Missing in Action Remembrance Ceremony will be held at the 755th Aircraft Maintenance hangar at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base at 9 a.m. Sept. 20.

The POW/MIA remembrance guest speaker will be a former POW Mr. John Swett. He was captured and detained during World War II while serving in Germany. Swett was a Corporal assigned to the U.S. Army's 106th Division, H Company, 423rd Regiment, 3rd Platoon when he was captured. His camp was liberated by General George S. Patton's Third Army on April 2, 1944

U.S. Navy helicopters and D-M units conduct joint training

Starting Sept. 12 three U.S. Navy MH-60S Knighthawk helicopters will emporary train here and develop skills necessary to support our nations defenses. The MH-60S airframe is similar to the HH-60 Pave Hawk, which is stationed here.

The MH-60S are coming from the Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 23 out of Naval Air Station North Island, San Diego, Calif.

TFD to hold 9/11 Ceremony

On September 11, 2013, TFD will hold a short ceremony to remember those lost on September 11, 2001. The commemoration will consist of the following:

1. 0845 hours - lower the flag from full staff to half staff.
2. 0846 hours - Communications will sound a single tone, followed by a short message and moment of silence.
3. After the moment of silence, return the flag to full staff.

TFD personnel will stand at attention near their workplace's flag and park their apparatus in front of their firehouse.
