The Tucson City Court Domestic Violence Mentor Court will host its first national Mentor Court open house on May 16 and 17. Courts from around the country will attend the open house, as will observers from the Center for Court Innovation and the Office of Violence Against Women (OVW).
Tucson City Court’s Domestic Violence Court is one of 14 United States Department of Justice, Office of Violence Against Women Domestic Violence Mentor Courts nationwide. OVW’s Domestic Violence Mentor Court Technical Assistance Initiative creates an opportunity to recognize well-established specialized courts.
Mentor courts are selected to serve as national models and share their expertise by hosting site visits, traveling to other jurisdictions, linking courts with peers facing similar challenges, and assisting other domestic violence courts to implement best practices to respond effectively to these difficult cases. At the open house, Judge Wendy Million and other court participants will present on the practical aspects of developing and running a domestic violence court.
