Tucson's Department of Procurement Wins National Award

The City of Tucson’s Department of Procurement recently received the distinguished Achievement of Excellence in Procurement (AEP) Award for the 20th year in a row, one of only six agencies nationwide to do so. The AEP Award is given by the National Procurement Institute, in partnership with 11 other professional sponsor organizations. It measures innovation, e-procurement, productivity, and leadership attributes in public procurement.

Live Music Tomorrow on Streetcar

Ride the Sun Link streetcar and enjoy the the final KXCI Presents: Sun Link Summer in the City Concert Series, a live concert inside a streetcar. The last concert will take place tomorrow night, featuring music from Hank Topless. Passengers can attend the concert by boarding the streetcar at the stop at Avenida del Convento and Congress (across from Mercado San Agustin) at 7 p.m.

Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair: Call for Vendors

Applications are available for artists who wish to participate in the Holiday Arts and Crafts Fair, Nov. 28-29. The event has been held for more than two decades, attracting vendors from all over the Southwest. The Tucson Parks and Recreation Department is seeking artists, crafters, photographers, painters, potters, jewelers, and more to sell their original artwork. All items must be handmade and are subject to approval.

UA Athletics Tours Downtown on Streetcar

With the start of the Arizona Athletics season this week, Athletics Director Greg Byrne, coaching staff from various sports, and mascots Wilbur and Wilma rode the Sun Link streetcar to speak with fans and enjoy the atmosphere of Downtown Tucson.

"We’re always looking for ways to connect with the Tucson community, and what better way than to take the streetcar from campus to downtown and mingle with patrons, business owners and Wildcat fans,” Byrne said.

If you'd like to track the streetcar and you have a smartphone, you're in luck. The Tucson Streetcar Tracker, developed by Dallan Porter at the University of Arizona, is useful if you want to figure out how long it will take for the streetcar to show up at the stop where you're waiting.

The app was developed using open data provided by Sun Link. The free tracker is available for iOS and Android.

Today is Deadline to Mail City Ballot

If you haven't returned your City of Tucson Primary Election ballot, today is your last day to get it in the mail to make sure it gets counted in Tuesday's election in the contests for Mayor and Council Members in Wards 1, 2 and 4. You also can drop off ballots through Tuesday at the City’s Elections Center, 800 E. 12th St. (near East Broadway Boulevard and South Euclid Avenue) or the City Clerk's Office on the 9th floor of City Hall, 255 W. Alameda.

In addition, there are select polling places open on Tuesday.
 

More Than a Thousand People Attend 'Second Chance' Job Fair

 A career fair in Tucson yesterday brought job hunters together with employers who were ready to give those with criminal records a second chance. Organizers expected about 750 people to show up, but two hours into the fair at the Tucson Convention Center, more than 1,000 were in attendance. The Second Chance Coalition, which hosted the job fair, was co-founded by Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and Federal Magistrate Judge Charles Pyle.
