Weight Room Orientation Classes

• Parent/Guardian approval is required for all participants ages 14-17
• Participants ages 14-17 must be accompanied by a parent/designated adult when taking an Orientation class.
• Participants ages 14 and 15 must be accompanied by a designated adult, who has completed an Orientation class, at all times while using Fitness Room equipment
• Weight Room Orientation Video - A release form must be completed at the recreation center acknowledging that you have watched the video.

Youth Programs

Schoolzout program (Ages 5-11)

This program is for youth 5-11 years old, (Kindergarten through 5th grade only) during out of school time (Fall, Holiday and Spring Break). Activities are supervised, engaging and fun.  Includes games, sports, social interaction, dance, art projects and nutrition-based learning activities. KIDCO (Ages 5-11)

An after school program for ages 5-11 years (5-year-olds must currently be enrolled in kindergarten, proof may be required). Games, arts and crafts, sports, nutrition, music, movies, field trips, reading time, dance and lots of fun. Offered Monday-Friday school dismissal to 6 pm.

Open Recreation (Age 7+)

For youth ages 7 and older. Center offers table tennis, computers, billiards, video games, and board games. M, T, Th, F, 3:30pm-6pm, W 2:30pm-6pm, all day Saturday. Facility Pass or daily fee required.

Teen Programs

In-Betweener’s Club - Age 12-14 (Summer)

Supervised summer teen program with an opportunity for social interaction, games, cooking, community involvement, and special activities. Participant must have completed 5th grade. A payment plan is available. Discount Program is available for City of Tucson residents only.  No program on July 4.

Senior Programs

Senior 50+ Club

Senior Club membership includes our gym (certification required), swimming pool, field trips, special events, and daily activities.  Daily activities include library, cards, game playing, Bingo, guest speakers, Texas Hold’em, arts and crafts, walking club, quilting, and baking.

Chair Exercise
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, from 9-10 a.m.

Senior Activity Card is required.

Senior Nutrition Program

A nutrition program for seniors 60+ offered in conjunction with Pima County Council on Aging (PCOA). A healthy nutritious meal served at 11:30 a.m. is offered, along with the opportunity to socialize with others. Preregistration is required and donations are accepted.

Sun Tran bus passes are sold at the center. Passes include daily, monthly prepaid cards. Load Products onto Cards with RPASS

Fred Archer

The area surrounding the Fred Archer Neighborhood Center was first settled in the 1930s and 1940s by African American homesteaders. Since 1963, the dream of many of the "A" Mountain residents was to have a center that would offer the neighborhood full recreational facilities. Many local residents wanted something new, something exciting, which everyone could savor – a neighborhood recreation center. The goal for the neighborhood center was to provide social and recreational experiences to the public, primarily residents of the general area.

The "A" Mountain Neighborhood Center was completed in September of 1978. In 1988, the Tucson City Council voted to rename it after its first director, Fred Archer. He had been involved with the construction of the cneter and he was its director until his death in 1988 at the age of 67. Archer was an active member of the Tucson community, serving on Tucson's Model Cities policy board and as a member of the Citizens Participation Council and the Affirmative Action Task Force. Fred Archer was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, retiring in 1974 as a chief master sergeant.
