PARKS AND RECREATION OPENS SPORTS FIELDS AND SOME RAMADAS FOR RESERVATIONS

The City of Tucson announces its plans to reopen City sports fields and small - and medium-sized ramadas for reservations, in accordance with Pima County guidelines. Beginning Tuesday, March 9, the City will begin accepting sports field reservations.

“It is with enthusiasm that we announce the reopening of our City sports fields and some ramadas. This past year has been especially difficult for our youth and we are thankful to see the number of COVID-19 cases declining,” said Mayor Regina Romero. "It’s important that we remember, as we begin to open up more facilities, we must continue to follow guidelines, mask up, and enjoy outdoor activities safely.”

The Pima County guidelines for using facilities can be found on the Back to Business webpage under “Operating Guidance for Businesses and Events During the Pandemic.” The guidance and attestation form, found under the “Sports Activities” tab, include:

  • Initial spectator limit of 50 individuals per outdoor field/use area, and no spectators at indoor venues;
  • Required face coverings by coaches, officials and spectators, and wearing of masks by players when not involved in active play;
  • Limiting seating to non-bleacher areas where spectators can keep six (6) feet spacing between separate parties;
  • Posting of COVID-19 advisory signage;
  • Designating event staff or volunteers to monitor and enforce adherence to mitigation measures; and
  • Completion of an attestation form accepting the required mitigation measures.

If an event is to include more than 50 people, the host must submit a Safe Event Application to the Pima County Health Department no later than 10 business days before the event date. Information and the application can be downloaded HERE.

"This is an exciting time, we know the kids and parents have been patiently waiting a long time to get back on the field,” said Ward 2 Council Member Paul Cunningham. “The community has done its part and will continue to do its part as we begin to open facilities and get teams back on the playing field.”

In addition, today, March 8, the City will begin removing the caution tape at small and medium ramadas only. New reservations and beer and wine permits will be accepted beginning Tuesday, March 9, by calling 520-791-4873 or through the new online reservation system at EZEEreg.com. Small or medium ramadas that are not reserved will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. All large ramadas will remain closed.

We will communicate any changes to this plan as information becomes available. For up-to-date information on the status of Parks and Recreation facilities, classes, and programs, please follow us on social media or visit our website Tucsonaz.gov/parks
