As the region’s monsoon season comes to an end, the City of Tucson Transportation Department’s Operation Splash Sandbag Program will conclude this week. The Tucson Rodeo Grounds sandbag distribution will end on Wednesday, September 11, 2019, at 8 p.m. The site opens at 4 p.m. for people to pick up pre-filled sandbags. The self-serve sandbag operations in the Hi Corbett Field east parking lot will end Friday, September 13, 2019, at noon.
The pre-filled sandbag distribution site at the Tucson Rodeo Grounds will reopen if the weather forecast calls for heavy rains and flooding in the fall, as will the self-serve operation at Hi Corbett Field.
This was the fourth year the Transportation Department distributed sandbags as part of the Operation Splash Program. An estimated 23,000 sandbags were distributed during this year’s monsoon season. Over the four-year period, approximately 100,000 sandbags have been distributed.
