The first set of roadway improvement projects associated with the voter-approved Proposition 101 Tucson Delivers Better Streets Program are set to begin Monday, February 11, 2019.
The first phase of the project will include reconstructing and repaving Starr Pass Boulevard from Lost Starr Drive to the Mission Road bridge interchange and La Cholla Boulevard from Starr Pass Boulevard to Ajo Way.
Granite Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin work on each segment by lowering manhole covers and water valve covers. Crews will then mill (remove) asphalt, reconstruct the dirt subgrade, install new asphalt and raise the manhole covers and water valve covers flush with the new asphalt. The schedule below is subject to change due to inclement weather or equipment malfunction.
Starr Pass Boulevard – Lost Starr Drive to Mission Road Interchange – Monday, February 11 to Friday, April 12
La Cholla Boulevard – Starr Pass Boulevard to Ajo Way – Friday, February 22 to Tuesday, April 23
Crews will work Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day, with occasional night work. Electronic message boards will be in place to alert motorists of this upcoming work.
Business and residential access will be maintained at all times during the project. The traveling public can expect delays when driving in these work areas. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work area.
Tucson Delivers Better Streets is a $100 million improvement program made possible by Tucson voters who approved a half-cent sales tax increase in May 2017. Thank you in advance for your cooperation as we work to improve the quality and safety of your City streets.
