The second set of roadway improvement projects associated with the voter-approved Proposition 101 Tucson Delivers Better Streets Program are set to begin Monday, July 15, 2019.
The projects will include reconstructing and repaving Roger Road from Wilson Avenue to First Avenue, River Road from Oracle Road to First Avenue within the city limits, and Runway Drive from Gardner Lane to Prince Road.
Granite Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Transportation Department, will begin work on each segment by lowering manhole covers and water valve covers. Crews will then mill (remove) asphalt, reconstruct the dirt subgrade, install new asphalt and raise the manhole covers and water valve covers flush with the new asphalt. Crews will also construct ADA accessible ramps at various locations throughout the project limits.
Work will be conducted in two phases on Roger Road, with one way travel allowed in each phase. Westbound Roger Road travel will be closed for approximately two weeks while crews work on the north side of the roadway. Crews will then shift to the south side of the roadway closing eastbound travel on Roger Road for an additional two weeks. The schedule for the roadway improvements is below.
Roger Road – First Avenue to Wilson Avenue – Monday, July 15 to mid-August
River Road – Oracle Road to First Avenue – Thursday, July 18 to the beginning of September
Runway Drive – Gardner Lane to Prince Road – Will begin following completion of work on River Road
Crews will work Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, with possible night work. Electronic message boards will be in place to alert motorists of the upcoming work. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
Business and residential access will be maintained at all times during the project. The traveling public can expect delays when driving in these work areas. Please obey all traffic control signs and watch for construction personnel and equipment in the work area.
