Crews from KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Transportation Department, are scheduled to begin final paving operations in the intersection of Valencia Road and Kolb Road on Sunday, June 30, 2019, at 7 p.m. and complete the work by Monday, July 1, around 6 a.m. During this time, there will be limited access through the intersection, with one lane of travel maintained in each direction. As paving equipment moves through the intersection motorists could experience major delays.
Law enforcement will assist with directing traffic at the intersection during working hours. Message boards will be in place ahead of this work to alert motorists.
As a reminder, motorists who want to travel west on Valencia from northbound Kolb Road are advised to turn left at Littletown Road and turn right on Wilmot Road to access Valencia Road.
Improvements to Valencia Road, including the intersection with Kolb Road, will increase roadway capacity and enhance safety along the corridor. The project will widen Valencia Road, roughly one mile east and west of Kolb Road to six lanes. The project includes new bike lanes, sidewalks, drainage structures, lighting, traffic signals and landscaping. This project is scheduled to be complete by the end of July.
The Regional Transportation Authority is a state-established political subdivision within Pima County that collects a half-cent excise tax from the RTA's special taxing district. The tax funds the RTA's 20-year regional transportation plan, which voters in the district approved in May 2006 along with the excise tax. To date, the RTA has invested over $1 billion in the region to deliver transportation projects and services that improve our region's mobility, safety, economic vitality and quality of life. This project is managed by the City of Tucson. Please visit www.RTAmobility.com for more information.
