Valencia Road - Wilmot Road To Kolb Road - Kolb Road Traffic Switch

Base paving operations on west side of Kolb Road north and south of Valencia Road are ongoing and scheduled to be complete on Tuesday, December 18, 2018. Following the paving work, crews from KE&G Construction, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will begin relocating the traffic signals at the Kolb Road and Valencia Road intersection in advance of shifting traffic from the east side of Kolb Road to the west side of Kolb Road.

The traffic signal relocation work is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at about 3 a.m. Pima County Sheriff’s deputies will assist with directing traffic at the intersection during the traffic signal work. Motorists can expect major delays during this work.

The Kolb Road traffic shift is scheduled to take place by noon on Wednesday, December 19, 2018. Once traffic has been shifted, crews will begin the underground utility improvements on the east side of Kolb Road.

Improvements to Valencia Road, including the intersection with Kolb Road, will increase roadway capacity and enhance safety along the corridor. The project will the widen Valencia Road, roughly one mile east and west of Kolb Road to six lanes. The project includes new bike lanes, sidewalks, drainage structures, lighting, traffic signals and landscaping.

This project is part of the $2.1 billion Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) Plan. The RTA is a special taxing district with a mission to deliver transportation projects that improve our region’s mobility, safety and environment. District voters approved the 20-year RTA plan in 2006. To date, the RTA’s transportation project investments of over $1 billion, generated by the RTA’s half-cent excise tax, are working to support the region’s economic vitality and improve your quality of life.
