Background
In 2007, the City of Tucson was awarded a Transportation Enhancement grant to create an asphalt pathway along the east side of Columbus Boulevard from Timrod Street to 22nd Street (approx. 3000’). The pathway would improve pedestrian connections along Columbus linking residents to Lineweaver Elementary School, churches, bus stops, friend’s homes, and other amenities. Currently, pedestrians must walk along the street or in the dirt right-of-way.
The project budget is $223,400. During the design phase the Department of Transportation will be hosting a public meeting to gather input from residents about final design plans.

Background
In 2007, the City of Tucson was awarded a Transportation Enhancement grant to create a pedestrian pathway and improve bicycle facilities along Park Avenue from Fort Lowell Road to Speedway Boulevard (approx. 2 miles). These pedestrian and bicycle improvements along Park Avenue will provide a safer and a more pleasant commuting experience for thousands of residents between Fort Lowell Road and the University of Arizona.
The project budget is $582,200. During the design phase the Department of Transportation will be hosting a public meeting to gather input from residents about final design plans.

Safe Routes to School Grant
Background
Liberty Bike Boulevard Transportation Enhancement grant includes improving bicycling and walking along Liberty Boulevard/ San Fernando Avenue from the Junction of South Belmar Avenue and West 43rd Street to Los Reales Road. This project will be kicked off by the City of Tucson in May 2012.
Liberty Avenue School Corridor Pedestrian Improvement Safe Route to School grant includes improving bicycling and walking for Liberty Elementary, Apollo Middle School, and many more schools. The improvements create a safer crossing at busy 12th Avenue and Canada Street, completing existing discontinuous sidewalks, and adding ramps to make these sidewalks accessible.
The main infrastructure improvement of this project is an enhanced pedestrian crossing (HAWK) at the off-set crossing of 12th Avenue and Canada Street. The HAWK crossing will provide children, as well as other pedestrians and bicyclists, a safer and more convenient way to cross this multiple lane street with fast moving traffic. The placement of this safe crossing will also invite more students to use the calm Canada Street route, and allow them to avoid the heavier traffic on Nebraska Street and Drexel Road. The HAWK crossing at 12th Avenue will also serve two bus stops that are adjacent, for any students who take the City bus to school in this open enrollment district.
Liberty Avenue will also be improved by installing continuous sidewalks on the east side of the road, where three schools are located, between Irvington and Drexel. Nebraska Avenue will be improved by installing continuous sidewalks on the north side of the road between the existing traffic signal at 12th Avenue and Liberty Avenue. Additionally, new ADA ramps will be installed along these stretches to provide greater accessibility.
The Sunnyside Neighborhood Association is soon to begin work with Watershed Management, a city non-profit group, to learn and implement water harvesting and landscaping skills in the Neighborhood. Toltecalli Academy located just north of the target schools, is working on a grant to fund the installation of street trees and native ground covers along this stretch of Liberty Avenue. The recently funded Liberty Bicycle Boulevard will be constructing traffic calming measures along Liberty Avenue, which complements this effort to provide for basic pedestrian improvements. The Bicycle Boulevard will provide safe crossings of busy roads, install traffic calming, install wayfinding signage and pavement markings, and seek to reduce the amount of car traffic on Liberty Avenue.

Background
The El Paso and Southwestern Greenway Transportation Enhancement project from Simpson Street to 22nd Street is a small piece of a larger 5-mile greenway project. The purpose of this greenway project is to create a bicycle and walking path along the no longer utilized El Paso railroad alignment.

Background
This community-driven project began in 2006 with the successful award of the Five Points Transportation enhancement grant. Over the past eight years, the community has earned Pima County Neighborhood Reinvestment funds and Surface Transportation Program funds to support their vision. These additional funds increased the original budget from a $500K project into a $1.4 million project.
The original project elements included filling in sidewalk gaps, providing Americans with Disability (ADA) access ramps, and improving pedestrian level lighting. The expanded project scope includes providing parking for the Five Points area by striping the north side of 18th Street between 6th Avenue and Arizona Avenue to provide 5 new parking spots, one of which will be a designated handicapped accessible spot.
Other scope changes include 1,100 square feet of additional sidewalk with associated ADA ramps, and adjusting and expanding the areas where lighting upgrades will improve pedestrian level lighting. The additional sidewalk will be installed within the original project boundaries, however the planned pedestrian lighting upgrades now extend one block northward on 6th Avenue from 14th Street to 13th Street. An additional light will be added to the right-of-way adjacent to Five Points Park, also known as Cesar Chavez Park, to improve lighting for park users.
The expanded project also includes public art at the Five Points intersection. The budget for this artwork is $410,650. The artist(s) will be selected through an open competitive public process managed by the Tucson Pima Arts Council (TPAC).
