Make Way for Books is offering a free opportunity for families with young children. The spots are filling up quickly.
Make Way for Books has been working diligently to adapt to the changing landscape of serving families and young children. They spent the summer designing and are excited to move our signature family engagement program, Story School, to a digital platform. Virtual Story School will feature blended, interactive learning with instructional videos, live zoom sessions with small cohorts of children and parents, and opportunities to interact with other families online.
This series is set to debut at the end of September. It is 10 weeks long and is designed for families with 3 to 5 year olds. Families will receive video content to review together each week, that features read-alouds, strategies to build language, literacy skills, and social-emotional skills, and have fun. Families will also meet weekly for thirty minutes on Zoom to discuss what was shared in the videos, to reflect on the progress they see their children making, and opportunities to do activities as a group.
Children will receive 20 high-quality books of their own to keep- each of which are featured in the videos, making it ideal for families to follow along and continue re-reading new favorites. Participants will also receive a backpack filled with school supplies and materials to complete their at-home projects. The series is available at no cost to families thanks to generous funders.
