Capacity improvements on I-19 southbound off ramp at Valencia Road start July 7
The Arizona Department of Transportation will begin a project to improve the southbound Interstate 19 exit ramp at Valencia Road following the July 4 holiday weekend.
Motorists using the exit ramp will encounter a right lane closure from 8 p.m. on Monday, July 7 until 5 p.m. Tuesday, July 8 while crews set up temporary construction barriers to provide a safe work environment for constructing an additional lane on the ramp.
The $1.69 million project is designed to increase the capacity of the ramp to prevent exiting traffic from blocking I-19 during peak hours by constructing a third lane on the west side of the ramp. The project also will include drainage improvements and replacing pavement markings.
At least one lane of the ramp will remain open to traffic throughout the project, with the exception of one weekend when the ramp will be closed. ADOT will provide advance notice for when the ramp will be closed.
The project is expected to be complete in February 2015.
ADOT advises drivers to proceed through the work zone with caution, slow down, and be alert for construction equipment and personnel.
ADOT works to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but there is a possibility that unscheduled closures or restrictions may occur. Weather can also affect a project schedule.
