Street Bonds Recovery Sealcoating Program

Southern Arizona Paving and Construction Co, under contract with the City of Tucson Department of Transportation (TDOT), will be sealcoating several Tucson roadways over the next two months as part of the voter-approved $100 million, five-year street bond program - Road Recovery.

The dates, work hours and locations for the next set of roadway improvements are listed below. The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather. Please note that the work will take place during the day.  

BLM Update

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and Western Area Power Administration are soliciting input on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement and Draft Resource Management Plan Amendment (EIS/RMPA) for the proposed Southline Transmission Line Project in southern New Mexico and Arizona. You and your staff are invited to attend a public hearing to learn more about the proposed project and provide comment.

Summary of Current Events

The Sun Link Tucson Streetcar received two awards from the American Public Works Association.

The project was awarded the Public Works Project of the Year and the project management for Joe Chase of TDOT.

Congratulations to Joe, TDOT and those involved with the Streetcar Project.

The 24th annual Metropolitan Education Commission Crystal Apple Awards was held Friday May 2, at the Desert Diamond Casino Resort.

Congratulations to all the winners for being honored in their efforts to better the lives of all students

HHW Update

Do you have unused chemicals, oils or pesticides sitting in your shed or garage? The City of Tucson and Pima County have an option for you to clean out your space while keeping these hazardous materials out of the environment. On Saturday, May 10, 2014, the Household Hazardous Waste Program 2nd Saturday Collection will be held at Mansfield Park, 2000 N. 4th Avenue from 8 a.m. to noon. Drop off of HHW is free for residents.

Reid Park Zoo Receives Association of Zoos & Aquarium Accreditation

Reid Park Zoo is proud to announce that it was recently granted
accreditation by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA). Reid Park
Zoo underwent a thorough review and inspection in January, demonstrating
the Zoo meets or exceeds professional standards for excellence in animal
care, veterinary programs, conservation, education, and safety. In late
March, Reid Park Zoo officials traveled to Memphis, Tennessee for a
hearing by AZA’s independent Accreditation Commission.

City of Tucson Fleet Among Top 100 Best Fleets in the Nation

The City of Tucson’s Fleet Services Division ranked 15th on the 2014
list of Top 100 Best Fleets in North America by the 100 Best Fleets
Program. The award program recognizes and rewards peak performing public
sector fleet operations in North America. The Fleet Services Division
operates the City’s motor pool by providing maintenance and repair to
police cruisers, garbage trucks, and other vehicles.

LICENSE AND TRANSACTION PRIVILEGE TAX REPORTING

Learn your rights and responsibilities for Transaction Privilege (Sales) Taxation by attending a Tax and License Workshop sponsored by the City of Tucson Finance Department. 

Questions will be answered and written materials will be available.  Samples of sales tax records, worksheets, and monthly returns will be explained.  Example returns can be completed.  It is recommended that you bring a calculator and a pencil.
