Who Uses Reclaimed Water for Irrigation?

In 1984, Tucson Water served its first reclaimed water customer with a single purple pipe. Today we serve more than 1,000 customers and the system includes 173 miles of pipe, 15 boosters, and 6 reservoirs. Reclaimed water customers primarly use this renewable water source for irrigation, but it can also be used for dust control, fire fighting, toilet flushing, and industrial purposes. Recharge sites that use recycled water create wildlife habitat. Our customers include:

  • 37 parks and 62 schools, including the University of Arizona
  • more than 700 single-family homes
  • 17 golf courses

A reclaimed system story map provides more information about this system and our customers.
